James (Jim) Freeman, AIA, Co-Founder & Principal, FSC Architects spoke about resort and casino design in the Philippines, and specifically in response to possible Philippine gaming advantages over competition in Macau and Singapore.

Jim says "the Philippines, with its world renown delightful sense of hospitality, friendliness and entertainment, should develop a casino style that can showcase these unique qualities and create casinos that are full of fun and entertainment". He thinks this would be a marketing advantage over the more subdued Macao and Singapore casinos competitors that are more pure gaming focused. Other parts of the world have more fun and entertainment like Las Vegas. In particular Jim recalled visiting the old Rio casino in Las Vegas where everybody is dancing while playing the slot machines because a large Mardi Gras style float literally passes overhead, while gliding on a top hung ceiling mounted rail, and is full of entertainers and party revelers throwing beads to the happy gaming audience below. "It's absolutely hilarious and everybody is having a good time" he says noting it was a lasting memory that will forever give him a smile.

Jim also spoke about luxury resort design and the Shangri-la Boracay Resort & Spa that he designed while he was at watg who is noted as the design architect for the project. Jim was the lead designer and acting principal. Edward Kuok, former Chairman, Shangri-la Hotels & Resorts said "Mr. Freeman lead a committed design team...and enjoyed the process of working with Mr. Freeman and we are very happy to recommend him."
