Shangri-La Maldives

Master Planning A Delicate Hideaway

It was the utmost priority from the beginning of the design process to leave the uniqueness of the island site untouched. The resort architecture itself should only be a guest.

The 184 villas are carefully laid around three villages; each holding a collection of amenities and celebrating a different atmosphere of the island. The connecting paths are a direct extension of the indoor and outdoor experiences that blend the tropical landscape, the natural elements and the climate with delicate architecture.

Design Architect was WATG and this project was designed with:
James G. Freeman - Acting Principal and Lead Designer

"Mr. Freeman led a very committed design team..." and " ... enjoyed the process of working with Mr. Freeman and we are very happy to recommend him." (Edward Kuok, former Chairman of Shangri-la Hotels & Resorts)
