James (Jim) Freeman, AIA, Co-Founder & Principal, FSC Architects was a keynote speaker at the Borneo Architecture Festival (BAF) - "The Architecture of Tourism", Sabah, Borneo Island, Malaysia, October 2018

James Freeman, AIA, Co-Founder & Principal shared some of what he has learned designing resorts, boutique resorts, hotels and resort master planning the past 22 years. His speech emphasized creating authentic memorable experiences enriching life requires passionate design and programming reconnecting humans with nature, and realizing their interdependence requires a sustainable approach to finite resources. This is grounded in authentic guest experiences being more memorable and desirable according to recent tourism industry surveys, that the most authentic designs are inspired from and integrate local culture, history and the natural environment, that human well-being is innately connected to nature, that nature has an intrinsic value and therefore humans and nature are interdependent.
