Design Process
Our approach to the design process is based on years of experience in what works in achieving great design. The basic stages are:
Stage One – INSPIRATION

To discover what makes any particular site unique and unite that with the clients aspirations we conduct a workshop at the site over a few days. We call this the ‘CHARRETTE’. Sketches, programs, plans are drawn and presented during this time and the basic idea is agreed with the client and their key decision makers. A deep understanding by all is formed in a short period of time.
Stage Three – SCHEMATIC DESIGN

The freehand concept moves into a more technical stage with electronic drawings. This means that the other key designers and experts inform the design including hotel operators, engineers, interior designers and landscape architects. At the end of this stage the design is what we call ‘dimensionally stable’ in that it’s size and form are fixed.
Stage Five – CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTATION & ADMINISTRATION

Full Construction Documents and Administration services are available for projects within the United Sates. In overseas projects this is carried out in conjunction with local architects who have a better knowledge of their particular countries building codes and government approvals process. The drawings and specifications actually used by the builder to construct the project are produced.
Stage Two – CONCEPT DESIGN

The basic idea is developed and a package of drawings is presented that explains the overall design. Three dimensional views, freehand plans and sketches as well as area programs describe the project.
Stage Four – DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

We ‘zoom in’ to the buildings and design at a larger scale ensuring that the quality of the overall design is carried through into the details. Large wall sections and elevations are produced and plans refined, building materials chosen.
